Volunteer- help raise awareness

Raising awareness…

There are a variety of ways you can help us continue to raise awareness of Salford Credit Union across Salford, North Manchester and Prestwich

For example, you could:

Become a Credit Union promoter

If you have a noticeboard or information stand in your office, community hall, canteen or staff room, we would be delighted to send you out some of our promotional material.

Let us know about an event we can attend!

It may be a community gathering, a fun day or a work meeting. If there will be a group of people together who you feel would be interested in learning about Salford Credit Union and the benefits of being a member we would love to hear about it.

Become a community champion

As a Community Champion you are a vital part of the development of the credit union. Your local knowledge and experience helps us to connect with the community and keep in touch with what our members expect from us. As a Community Champion you would give your time and enthusiasm to:

  • Promote the benefits of membership to the people of your community
  • Attend and make presentations about the credit union to local organisations
  • Keep us informed about opportunities and events in your area
Become a workplace rep

If you would be interested in becoming a key contact within your workplace, talking to your colleagues about Salford Credit Union and pointing them in our direction, we would love to hear from you.

What sort of skills do I need for these roles?

We are looking for a range of skills from our Promoters, Community Champions and Workplace reps and these will depend partly on how much time you are likely to be able to contribute but are likely to include:

  • Effective face to face communications
  • Able to speak confidently in informal and formal meetings and events- with individuals and groups (for some roles)
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail
  • Selling and influencing skills (some roles)
  • Happy to work as part of a team with other volunteers and paid staff
  • A commitment to credit union values and community development

What can you expect from us?

We will give training and support plus any resources and information you need. Volunteers are not paid but out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.

How can I become a volunteer?

If you are interested in joining our volunteer team contact us at 0161 686 5880 or email info@salfordcreditunion.com.  Tell us about yourself and what sort of role you are interested in. Someone will contact you to talk about how you may be able to volunteer. You will need to become a member of the Credit Union to volunteer with us.

For the community champion and workplace rep roles you will have to have an interview to check your suitability and if you are successful you must be willing to undertake a DBS (criminal record) check. If you are an un-discharged bankrupt you cannot become a volunteer with the credit union.

If you can help in any of the above ways – or have any other ideas for how you could help us to raise awareness, please get in touch!
