Salford Credit Union welcomes new Trustee member on board
We are delighted to announce that Langworthy Councillor, Wilson Nkurunziza, has joined our board as a Trustee and will be working closely with the local community to ensure that fewer people are struggling with their money.
Mr Nkurunziza joins our team of committed trustees who all support our mission to make Salford citizens better off: including Salford councillor Jim King, Alec McFadden from Salford Unemployment Centre and MirandaClarke from City of Trees.
Mr Nkurunziza moved to Salford 15 years ago to study Social Work at the University of Salford, after fleeing from a Civil War in East Africa in 2002. He is now committed to helping improve the quality of life for residents across the city.
Mr Nkurunziza said: “I have joined Salford Credit Union to ensure that those who are disadvantaged can access loans with low interest rates. I would also like to help people learn how to save their money, if they are in a position to.”
He understands that, unfortunately, some people might not know about the services that their local Credit Union can offer and the benefits of becoming a member.
He added: “People tend to go to high street lenders or overdraw money from their bank. These are profit-making organisations and these loans are not easy to pay back, forcing more people into debt because of the high interest rates.
“I want to ensure that our local residents are well looked after, especially in these difficult times. I will be engaging with the community so that people don’t miss out on the great opportunity to join us.”
