Welcome to our new board members
Salford Credit Union is pleased to announce that three new directors have joined our board.
Not long ago, we asked our members if they wanted to help improve the credit union by offering their ideas, skills, and time. The areas we wanted to strengthen included modernising our IT systems to help improve the service to our members by becoming even more efficient and effective – and helping to increase engagement with communities across Salford including ethnic minority communities.
Three members stepped forward to volunteer for this important task: Wilson Nkurunziza and Haroon Majid were elected by members at the AGM in March, whilst David Warburton-Broadhurst has been co-opted to stand for election at the 2022 AGM.
For over 30 years, Salford Credit Union has been helping local people to take control of their money by providing a secure savings account and low-cost, ethical loans. Some of our volunteers have been with us from the beginning and some directors for almost 10 years. We celebrate their experience and commitment while we make sure we stay current and relevant by bringing on new people to help shape the future direction.
Haroon Majid, who was brought up in Irlam o th’ Height is looking forward to getting involved with community activities that benefit everyone and with his love of walking in the open air to keep fit, he has plenty of energy to bring to the table.
Haroon says, “I’m hoping that in my work as a Civil Servant, and with my leadership experience, I can help to shape the future direction of Salford Credit Union in a really positive way,”
David Warburton-Broadhurst, who is born and bred in Greater Manchester, is an experienced Chief Information Officer professional having held various senior positions with several large organisations. He has a successful track record of delivering multi million pound programmes with extensive systems implementation experience. David’s talents don’t end there though, as he is also an accomplished pianist.
David says,“ I believe that all of my skills and experience will help SCU grow and support the business plan and IT strategy, whilst also enabling me to mentor and support the board.”
Wilson Nkurunziza is a social worker graduate from Salford University and serves the people of Pendleton and Charlestown as a Councillor. As a resident in the area he has joined the Credit Union Board of Trusteesto deliver a better quality of life within our communities.
Wilson added, “I have spent the majority of my working experience within community settings, working alongside some of the most vulnerable people in our communities and I firmly believe that the transferrable skills I have gained throughout my career will help to deliver the credit union aims and objectives.
We are really excited to work with our three new board members and see how their varied skills and experience make a difference to the credit union and community and wish them every success in their new roles.
